The barn was built circa 1900. Charles Virts purchased the farm in 1904. Charles came to Ohio from Virginia by train, getting off at Catawba Station. Three generations were born and raised in the home.

In 1998, the hay mow was removed and a large overhead door was installed to allow storage of modern equipment. Red metal siding was added as the old wood would no longer hold paint.
