This barn was originally the Powell family farm. Kirby Chicken Hatchery was the next owner and had a booming business in the 1950s and 1960s. The Dave Smith family bought the farm in 1983 and started an ongoing renovation project. The barn was pressure washed from top to bottom, all of the siding was re-nailed and the structural elements were restored. The first floor has been turned into energy efficient well-insulated rooms with an in-floor heating system. The first floor houses a federally-inspected seafood processing facility, offices and work shop areas and the farm's retail store. What once housed mounds of hay on the 2nd floor has been renovated for private parties and receptions with a banquet hall and dance floor area.
