Barn Quilt Locations
5010 Rhoades Road, Urbana
Barn Owners: Avery and Jaclyn Zerkle
Quilt Square: "Zerkle Star"
Sponsors: Henderson Land Investment Co.

This property has been in the Zerkle Family for six generations. The property was originally purchased by Atchison Conrad in the 1890's. He built the house in 1898. Atchison's granddaughter, Bessie Conrad Jenkins and her husband Dave had this clear span barn built in 1936 by J. Shaffer and crew from nearby Terre Haute. The cost was $3000. The barn housed a variety of livestock - horses, beef and dairy cattle, and swine. It had large storage bins for oats and wheat. The two large side mows have stored hay and straw for years. Currently, the barn stores RVs, boats and other items.
The quilt pattern, Zerkle Star, which is an Ohio Star variation, was selected to go with the family name and history of the family.
