Barn Quilt Locations

5600 Black Road, Cable

Barn Owners: Naomi LaRue Millice

Quilt Square: "Cardinal"

Sponsors: William Robert Millice and Sandra Turner

This barn was built in 1890. The owner was AJ LaRue Sr., who passed it on to his son, AJ LaRue Jr., who passed it on to the current owner, his daughter, Naomi LaRue Millice.

The barn was used for milk cows and work horses, as well as the family butcher - beef, pork and chickens, which were raised on the farm. The family also worked the ground to raise corn.

The little white house in front of the barn was used for a family house which AJ LaRue Jr. used. His wife and two children stayed in the little house until AJ's mother and father were deceased, at which point, AJ Jr. and his family moved to the big house. The little white house was then used for animal feed and a canning cellar.

The quilt square, "Cardinal" is not only the Ohio state bird, but is also the mascot of the Triad Local School district.  The letter "M" in the corners represents the Millice family.

The quilt was designed by Janice Millice and is in her memory.
